Project description: Despite substantial evidence that supports the use of specific guideline-directed therapies in cardiovascular disease, real-world use of these medications remains low across the U.S. We designed a prospective randomized clinical trial evaluating two behaviorally-informed interventions that seek to close persistent care gaps in outpatient cardiology clinics.

  • Monthly report card intervention to elevate physicians' intentions to close patient care gaps.
  • EHR storyboard redesign to prompt action by increasing salience of patient care gaps.

The primary outcome is care gap closure for cardiology-specific metrics (e.g., proportion of patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction on beta blockers). The trial investigates the separate and joint impacts of the proposed behaviorally-informed interventions through a 2x2 factorial randomization scheme.
