Projects
The Nudge Unit has a strong history of designing and implementing projects into real-world patient care.

Lessons about Nudge Scalability
Field experimentation and behavioral science have the potential to inform policy. We identified important factors that can explain variation in estimated intervention efficacy across evaluations and help policymakers better predict behavioral responses to interventions in their settings.
UCLA Health Patient Cardiology Care Gaps
We designed a prospective randomized clinical trial evaluating two behaviorally-informed interventions that seek to close persistent care gaps in outpatient cardiology clinics.
Post Discharge Follow-Up
We designed a prospective randomized trial aiming to increase follow-up PCP visit completion rates. Post-discharge follow-up appointments were scheduled via video visits with the PCP scheduling team at hospital discharge to improve follow-up rates with PCPs.
Promoting Preventive Screenings via Intention- and Action-Oriented Behavioral Interventions
We developed behaviorally-informed text-messaging interventions to close care gaps.
Reforming the PCCE Program to Promote Justice and Performance
We designed a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to leverage an under-appreciated driver of incentive programs’ success: procedural and distributive justice, or the perceived fairness of the program’s implementation and outcomes.
UCLA Health Patient Health Tickler Email
We designed a prospective clinical trial evaluating how a behaviorally-informed email notification that is auto-generated when a patient portal message is sent will impact patient engagement with the portal.
